Learn about our Schools-PT Task Force

  • Are you a schools-PT in NC?

Did you know that in the NC Department of Public Instruction, PTs and OTs are not in the same employment category as teachers, nurses, and speech-language pathologists.  They are are in the "Certified" employment category with raises and mandatory payment ladders, and due process when problems occur.   PTs and OTs have long been in the "Classified" employment category with employees such as bus drivers, without due process and without professional pay standards.  Since 2022, DPI made a new category for just PTs, OTs, and driving license instructors called "Other Licensed Professionals," again, without standardized pay raises when the General Assembly raises state employee pay.  Again, without due process protections.

  • Are you concerned Certification vs Classification employment?

The APTA NC Peds SIG Schools-PT Task Force is also concerned!  Why has this obvious inequality continued decade after decade, left for the districts to solve on their own?
